trial by forest

One of the main aims of PASA sanctuaries is conservation, so reintroducing primates to the wild is one of the big goals. With chimps this is really difficult but they are constantly refining the ideas and attempts for doing this. With monkeys things tend to go more smoothly. Our little monkey friend from awhile ago (who had my name for a bit but i think now is going by something slightly more african :) was among a group of putty nose monkeys who were reintroduced about a week ago. Most of the group is doing well and is integrated with a wild population but the little guy did not do so well. without a monkey mom its tough to learn about the dangers in the forest.
he had a tough encounter with an eagle but fortunately survived the attack...Rebbecca stitched him up back at the sanctuary:

still a beautiful little baby...

i guess he looks a little crazy here.

but he has definitely maintained his playful spirit despite the tough times.
