In the wild chimpanzees need about 100 acres of forest per individual to get enough nutrition to survive. Of course, the chimps are always moving from patch to patch in the forest finding the fruits that are ripe and leaving the depleted sites behind. Despite the big forest enclosures at Tchimpounga, all the chimps need lots of supplementary food in their diet. It’s a good mix of fruits and then other things for protein etc. The big protein booster is soy mush. Everybody begs for this stuff as the keepers hand it out by the spoonful.
Its almost impossible to get enough in your mouth at once.
