One of the interesting things at Tchimpounga is how you have to find creative ways to get unusual things done with the chimps. Tory has a brilliant method for collecting saliva for hormone analysis. I will need to post a picture of it soon. Basically she crushes up sweet tarts, dips a cotton pad in the crushed sugar and then swipes it around inside the chimps' lips. the chimps love it because the sugar is delicious and it makes them salivate a ton so the cotton comes out drenched. from there she can just put the cotton in a syringe and squeeze all the saliva out into a vile.
