Oulengue

I thought I would write little about oulengue today since he has some big life events coming up in the next few days. Oulengue is one of the oldest chimps in the nursery. When infant orphans arrive at Tchimpounga they spent a month in quarantine to make sure they're not going to infect the other chimps with terrible diseases and then they move to the nursery. You can see the enclosure at the nursery in the pictures below. Don't be fooled though, this little shelter is just for temporary stuff in the morning and night. During the day the infants go into the forest with the keepers where they are encouraged to play and learn about the forest on their own. They get braver and braver with time and sometimes don't even come back with the other group members if they've found something good to do in the forest. Oulengue has finally outgrown this group and is moving in with some older chimps in the next few days. It will be a tough few days for him but i'm sure he will make friends quickly.

He's a good looking chimp but could probably use some dental work....

he's also a big fan of kisses but poo is no stranger to the average chimp's mouth so I try to keep ouelengue's kisses off my lips.

...checking out each other's tongues.
