We made a huge mistake today and counted on something happening as scheduled in Africa. Namely, we drank the last of our water last night thinking there was more coming this morning. It was a thirsty morning.
Sometimes the staff at Tchimpounga cook us food and this usually involves them cooking whatever we have in tons of oil. Not too big a problem when its rice or vegetables but today we got the motherload. We had a can of chef Boyardee ravioli and Francine decided she would cook it for lunch. Unfortunately she added about half a bottle of oil putting the finishing touches on a dish unfit for even a state fair. I of course at more than either of the girls and now feel like I have six containers of playdough floating around my stomach.
Today we’re piloting tests and getting ready to really get started with research. We visited a bunch of chimps with fungus this morning and they made tons of funny faces as we blew in their faces. Chimps love this game where you blow in their face and they pull their lips back to feel the breeze.
Day 2, chimp escape five. I’m going to make a t-shirt that says ‘Tchimpounga: where fences are psychological boundaries’. Fanituek jumped the fence today and decided she would hang out with us to avoid the keepers sending her home. Tory got a big hug in the process.
