bonobo faces
I realized that in one of my first posts from Lola, I mentioned that bonobos have much longer hair on their faces than chimpanzees....but then i had pictures of bonobos who have been overgroomed a bit by their friends and are consequently not so typical looking. Here are some more typical bonobo faces.

There is something that everybody notices about bonobos when you look at their faces. It seems like they look really deeply into your eyes. Its really hard tell to know what this means but its an interesting experience. For a lot of primates in despotic groups, eye contact is threatening and is avoided. If you make eye contact it tends to generated aggression or submission. Bonobos have much more egalitarian social systems and its seems like they are more relaxed about eye contact.
But even beyond that basic fact, it seems like they LOVE to look into your eyes. they almost always approach and put their face close to yours to look into your eyes.
This is my friend Kubulu playing the blow in my mouth game.
